IDPs in Malakal learn about conflict management

22 April 2014 - To promote peace and harmony among displaced people seeking shelter in the UNMISS base in the Upper Nile State capital Malakal, UNMISS today organized a workshop on conflict management and peace building.

Elders from different communities living in the protection site are attending the two-day training which is aimed at enabling them to understand conflict modalities and early warning response, as well as the role of the Mission in South Sudan.

“It is our responsibility to make these sites (more) secure and healthier for us,” said Teresa Param, chairperson for health in the protection site.

She appreciated the role of UNMISS in ensuring security for displaced people at the base.

“Harmony among our communities is a priority for us all,” said James Both Chol, chairperson for security in the site.
