UNMISSS hands over water system in Malith, Lakes State

21 August 2015 - UNMISS has donated a new solar-powered water system to Malith village in Rumbek East county, Lakes state.

Speaking during the launch today, Yom Marik, a member of the Lakes state water management committee, said the solar-powered water system is expected to produce 5,000 liters of water per day.

Lakes State Director of Water Barnaba Makuac Magol says constant water supplies in Malith village will help stem water-related disputes that have been common in the area.

“We are together (with UNMISS) handing over the small water distribution system, which has been constructed here,” Mr. Magol said. “The capacity of the tank is 5,000 liters.”

He noted that the water project would serve the community during the dry season in place of water kiosks. With help from the new system, women could plant vegetable gardens to supply their families.”
