Tightening security, Nepalese fence Rumbek Secondary School

11 September 2014 - To boost security and thwart interruptions to classes, the UNMISS Nepalese Battalion began today to erect a fence around Rumbek Secondary School.

Deputy Head Teacher for Academic and Students Affairs Adongkena Kenneth said the fence, which runs about 800 metres, should reduce the security threat and help teachers control students who come late, interrupting classes.

Expressing gratitude to the Nepalese, Ms. Kenneth said, “We are quite sure that the learning situation will change and even the control of the students will definitely change.”

She noted that the fencing was the third instance of support from UNMISS. “About a year ago a strong wind blew off one of our dormitory roofs and UNMISS came and replaced it,” Ms. Kenneth said. “They reconstructed the whole roof and repainted it.”

She added that the Nepalese had also constructed bathrooms for students in the dormitory.
