Children immunized against measles in Bentiu

9 April 2015 - Due to an outbreak of measles at the Protection of Civilians (PoC) site in Bentiu, Unity State, UNICEF and the World Health Organization (WHO) have begun immunizing children in the camp.

The immunization, which started on 7 April and will last five days, is targeting more than 23,000 children from six months to 15 years old.

WHO Consultant Geoffrey Salakpi said immunization was initiated following 100 reported cases of measles in the protection site. “So far more than 8,700 children have been vaccinated to prevent them from catching measles.”

He urged parents and caregivers to bring their children to the vaccination center to be immunized.
