UNMISS Civil Affairs and Western Equatorian Authority discuss way forward with SSNLM
May 2016 - The head of the UNMISS Civil Affairs Division (CAD) in Western Equatoria met with the top authority of the Government in Yambio to discuss the way forward and how they can support the implementation of the signed peace deal between the Government and South Sudan National Liberation Movement-IO.

National Women’s Peace Forum
April 2016 - Twenty women who represent civil society across South Sudan gathered for the National Women Peace Forum to review the status of implementation of recommendations from the last year and to discuss and agree on their common concerns for peace and security in South Sudan in the context of implementation of recommendations made in 2014 on UNSCR 1325 Women Peace and Security.

1st VP Machar pledges government commitment to combat sexual violence
May 2016 - First Vice President Riek Machar on Sunday pledged a commitment by the new government to combat sexual violence and other forms of abuses committed by organs belonging to the security sector. His promise was delivered as he met Zainab Bangura, the UN Special Envoy on sexual violence in conflict.

Community of Bangasu Payam learn new skills on conflict management
April 2016 – Over fifty community members of Bangasu Payam in Yambio county learn new skills on conflict management and resolution, the UNMISS mandate and other issues during a two day workshop organized by the UN Mission’s Civil Affairs Division (CAD), supported by the Human Rights Division and the Communication and Public Information Section.

Sports for Peace and Unity tournament kicks-off in Malakal
May 2016 – A ‘Sports for Peace and Unity’ football competition kicked off in the Malakal PoC site under the theme; “Together for a peaceful nation.”  The activity is part of an UNMISS quick impact project to harmonize and stabilize the security situation.  The initiative is funded by the UNMISS RRP section and implemented by South Sudan Development Agency (SSUDA).
