Lakes State road repaired with UNMISS fuel

6 August 2014 - Travel between Rumbek, greater Yirol and Juba on the Bhar Naam road became considerably easier after it was repaired from rainy season damage with the assistance of UNMISS-donated fuel.

“When we talk of the road that is connecting Rumbek East, Yirol West up to greater Yirol counties, it was badly (affected),” Minister of Physical Infrastructure Abraham Meen Kuc said as he inspected the road today.

Accompanying Minister Kuc were Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Mariam Paul Jebbi and

Minister of Social Development Monica Achol Abiel Aguek and UNMISS State Coordinator Kwame Dwamena Aboagye.

Mr. Kuc thanked UNMISS for the fuel needed to repair the road. “Otherwise we would not have done this excellent work. It is with their support that we are able to catch up those badly damaged areas around this Bhar-Naam river side.”

Previously, transport and business activities in the state were halted and 17 vehicles stranded due to the road’s muddy and flooded state. The road repair has revived transport between Rumbek, other counties and states.
