A total of 32 participants, drawn from different communities at the Protection of Civilians site, learned basic human rights principles as well as rights to be observed during arrest and detention.

“The purpose of this awareness workshop is to equip the (community) leaders and youth security monitors with some basics of human rights standards and principles and to tell them what their rights are as IDPs and South Sudanese citizens,” said UNMISS Human rights Officer, Kwacikwan John Tipo.

Agnesa Zachariah, a participant, commended the mission for conducting the workshop. “I have benefited from this workshop. I have learned about the rights of women to education, the right to work, the right to have shelter and child rights.”
