The top leadership of Jonglei and Boma states together with paramount Chiefs agreed to end cattle raiding and child abduction after their final peace consultative meetings in Bor on 20th Sept 2016.

In attendance were political leaders of Jonglei and Boma, paramount Chiefs of Murle and Dinka as well as intellectuals from both communities.

The peace consultative meeting in Bor was a continuation of the Gumuruk consultative meeting held last month and all the resolutions on contentious grievances were agreed by all Murle and Dinka leaders to make lasting peace.

Both communities and their state governments agreed to convene a joint peace conference slated for November 25th this year in Pibor town to finalize the issues between them, and to forge lasting peace.

Many things to be implemented in place to prevent criminal activities between the two communities of Dinka which both parties agreed upon include establishing a joint Prison to detain criminals lingering between the communities, establish a criminal court at the border of Murle and Dinka to prosecute criminals as well as formation of a joint police Unit of about 1000 well trained and equipped police force.

In a show of commitment to peace and to the Gumuruk resolutions, the Governor of Boma State Baba Medan handed over an abducted girl to the governor of Jonglei, Col. Philip Aguer, during the meeting in Bor town.

“We agreed in Gumuruk to bring back to their owners the abducted children in Bor and Pibor and now I implemented my part by bringing the girl child to Bor, I therefore asked the Governor of Jonglei to do the same and I know he will do that”.  Baba Medan told Participants.

Although the Governor of Jonglei did not handover the abducted child from Murle during that meeting, he immediately ordered the police Commissioner to trace the child through the Chiefs.

Governor Aguer also ordered the arrest of the Chief and the criminal if they fail to comply with his orders to bring back Murle abducted Child which is seen as a precondition to peace and confidence building.
