Top authority in Wau visits PoC site

The top government authority in Wau has visited the UN Protection of Civilian (PoC) site and met with community leaders.

Andrea Mayar Acho assured the IDPs that his government is working to restore security to allow them return to their homes.

Conflict erupted in Wau last June between armed groups and the army resulting in killings, looting and mass displacement of civilians.

Andrea Maya assured the displaced persons that his government’s priority is to restore peace.

“The most important thing for a person is the protection of his life and property,” he said.  “You will remain here for protection till security is improved and I am working on it.”

Currently, there are more than thirty thousand people seeking shelter at UN PoC site and in the compound of the Wau Catholic Church combined.

The Head of Field Office of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) based in Wau, Winnie Babihuga reiterated the Mission’s commitment to protecting civilians and creating an enabling environment to allow people return to their homes.
