The Human Rights Division (HRD) of UNMISS last week conducted a human rights awareness programme with the Western Lakes members of parliament (MPs).

Speaking during the engagement, the State’s Political Advisor Mr. Mabor Meen Wol acknowledged UNMISS’ ceaseless support in peace building and human rights promotion, saying human rights is a rope that ties peace.

“I appreciate UNMISS for all the activities that you have being doing, including the many workshops you give to support the Assembly and the government of the state. As a result we are in relative peace in the state because human right itself is a rope for peace, it ties people together and makes them respect themselves so peace can prevail,” Mr. Meen stressed.

The Rumbek Head of Field Office, Mr. Kwame Dwamena Aboagye, emphasized the MPs crucial role as human rights defenders.

The workshop addressed challenges faced by UNMISS officials when monitoring, investigating and reporting on human rights in the state.
