UNMISS hands over road, community centre in Turalei

26 March 2014 - UNMISS handed over to Warrap State communities today a new road, a community centre and an office extension in a ceremony in Turalei.

The road links Turalei town to the main county hospital, the community centre offers a much-needed venue for public meetings and the office extension adds to the premises of the county commissioner.

“Now an ambulance can drive easily to the hospital,” said Majok Bol, state Minister of Agriculture. “This kind of generosity will be remembered among the population in the county.”

He urged residents to maintain the community centre, using it for training, peace conferences, and even immunization or cultural events in the county.

The three so-called Quick Impact Projects were funded by Norway and the Netherlands through the UN Development Programme, with UNMISS Return, Recovery and Peacebuilding handling implementation.

“UNMISS has done a great work for our people” said Ngor Nyuol, representing the Turalei County Paramount Chief. He called on UNMISS and other development partners to repeat the projects in other counties in the state.

UNMISS State Coordinator Abraham Onifade pledged UNMISS support in maintaining peace and security in the country, while upholding its principle of impartiality.
