UNPOL visits SSNPS ‘777’ call center to asses capability

In the aftermath of the recent clashes in Juba, UNPOL officers visited the SSNPS (South Sudan National Police Service) Emergency Call Centre based at Buluk Operations Headquarters to assess the operational capability of the unit.

The SSNPS Emergency Call Centre (ECC) Juba became operational in July 2014 with the objective of providing those living in Juba with a single, dedicated free emergency telephone number ”777”.

The SSNSP ECC and 777 Emergency response units have been supported by UNDP, GIZ (German Corporation for International Cooperation) and UNMISS to generate appropriate, effective and quick police response to crimes committed in the capitol city, Juba.

During the visit, the UNPOL officers met with SSNSP leadership and discussed current challenges. It was noted that none of the Buluk compound suffered any damage during the battles and remains operational.

The next stage of the assessment is to ascertain the operational functionality of the 777 Headquarters at Nyakuron and emergency response units based in various locations in Juba.
