Warrap women urged to work for peace

20 May 2014 - Aiming to strengthen women’s contribution to conflict resolution, UNMISS and the African Leadership and Reconciliation Movement (ALARM) held a one-day workshop for 30 women today in the Warrap State capital Kuajok.

Under the theme “Strengthening the capacity of women of greater Gogrial on peace and conflict resolution,” the activity covered conflict resolution, effects of ethnicity, ethnic conflict and peacebuilding as well building peacemaking teams in the community.

Rose Acindhel, chairperson of the Warrap Women’s Union Association urged youth and women to work for peace and reconcile their differences for peaceful co-existence in South Sudan.

“We know the crisis and the conflict which is going on in South Sudan” Ms. Acindhel said. “If we are coming together today, it is giving us a chance to spread and inform the population of South Sudan to join peace and reconciliation.”

UNMISS State Coordinator Abraham Onifade called on women to work hard for peace and unity in South Sudan. “When men are fighting, woman can separate them. Work for peace and you promote peace within your community.”
