Kiir inaugurates county headquarters, hospital projects in Wau

18 July 2014 - President Salva Kiir has inaugurated several projects in the Western Bahr El-Ghazal capital Wau, including two county headquarters, a maternity ward, blood bank and museum.

The headquarters were for Wau County in Ngo Baggari and Jur River County in Nyinakok,

Addressing citizens in Ngo Baggari and Nyinakok, President Kiir the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement’s vision was to take towns to villages. “That means taking services to the people. Use this facility well.”

Adding that he had donated a primary school in Ngo Baggari and secondary school in Jur River counties, Mr. Kiir advised parents to avoid selling girls for a bride price.

“Please do not use your daughters as items for sale,” he said. “Bring them up well and send them to school, because if you educate one woman you educate the whole nation.”

The president also donated tractors to the counties. “As I was coming here, I saw that these lands are good for cultivation, so I give four tractors, two for each county.”

In addition, the president inaugurated a maternity ward, blood bank and clinic in Wau Teaching Hospital as well as a national museum.

The hospital projects were funded by the Canadian government, and implemented by the UN Development Programme and World Health Organization.

Mr. Kiir urged citizens to donate blood to the bank and educate women about the maternity ward.

“I want you, all the health workers, to go to the villages and sensitize women about antenatal care,” he said. “This maternity ward will not allow any woman to die during child labour.”

The museum the president inaugurated is located in the house of Chief Paulino Cheer Rehan, where more than 75 South Sudanese intellectuals were massacred by the Sudanese army in 1965.

Mr. Kiir asked the South Sudanese people to forgive the Sudanese army. “I want you all to forgive the Sudanese army for killing our people. I do not want revenge.”
