24 April 2015 - UNMISS today launched work rehabilitating a primary school in Pariang County, Unity State.

The Mongolian peacekeeping battalion in the state will implement the project, which is funded from the Mission’s Quick Impact Project and is expected to benefit 120 children at the school.

“This is part of programmes aimed at consolidating peace and building confidence in Pariang County where we have operated since the inception of the Mission,” said Acting UNMISS State Coordinator Alain Sitchet.

He said when the project is completed, there will be more space to accommodate more children and that the rehabilitation would also avail the children with a more conducive learning environment which would have a positive impact on their health.

The peacekeepers will be working on renovation of fences, lights and washroom facilities in addition to construction work on the school block.

During the launch, a medical team from the Mongolian battalion carried out medical outreach in the community. The local people received health care services and essential medicines were also donated to the local health facility.
