UN Security Council Visit to Mali

The 15 members of the United Nations Security Council will begin a two-day visit to Mali on Sunday. The delegation will meet with the Malian authorities, notably President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta, Prime Minister Oumar Tatam Ly and National Assembly President Issaka Sidibé, as well as with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and head of MINUSMA, Mr. Albert Koenders, representatives of groups signatories to the Ouagadougou Preliminary Agreement and representatives of the Malian civil society.

Seven months after the deployment of MINUSMA, the visit of the Security Council aims at supporting the stabilization of the country and the activities of the UN Mission. The members of the Security Council particularly intend to support the establishment, as soon as possible, of an inclusive national dialogue process for a sustainable solution in the north of Mali.
