In order to enhance rule of law and good governance, the Civil Affairs Division (CAD) of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan engaged Members of Parliament of the newly created Gok state on the conduct of legislative business.

Civil Affairs officer, Ms. Lilian Bondi, disclosed that the objective of this induction programme is to equip members with the basic knowledge of parliamentary practices and procedures to facilitate their effective participation in the legislative process.

“The main aim of conducting this induction training is essentially to acquaint newly appointed members with the legislative processes to procedure, and the challenges they face as representatives of the people. In broad terms, members are intended to achieve the objective of providing information on the general functions of the legislature; law-making processes; standing rules/orders of parliament, etc”.

The Speaker of Gok State Legislative Assembly, Ms. Umjuma Philip Dak, thanked the UNMISS for their support and urged the legislators to make a difference after this induction.

“Let me seize this opportunity to first and foremost thank UNMISS for supporting us with this very crucial training. It is now our turn as people’s representatives to gain knowledge that will better improve our work in this house”.

Gok State is one the three successor states of former Lakes State following Presidential Establishment Order Number 36/2015 AD for the creation of 28 states.
