SRSG David Shearer awards Indian troops UN Peacekeeping Medals

More than 40 troops serving with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan have been presented with UN Peacekeeping medals for their invaluable contribution to the implementation of the UN Mandate.

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General and head of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan – UNMISS, David Shearer, honored personnel of the Indian Contingent at a colorful ceremony held last Friday in Bor.  

During the ceremony, David Shearer awarded medals to more than 40 Indian peacekeepers on behalf of the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres.

The SRSG thanked the Indian peacekeepers for their contribution to the Mission’s success. He specifically acknowledged the important role played by the Indian Battalion during the conflict in the country.

“Indian peacekeepers have shown courage and robustness during challenging times and I want to thank you for that.”

Later, the SRSG pinned UN medals to the Indian Peacekeepers.
