UNMISS witnesses a final peace agreement between Kook-Awach and Kook-Keer sections in Rumbek East

The two rival Kook sections of Panawac and Pacong of Rumbek East signed a final peace agreement with the support from UNMISS’ Civil Affairs Division on Tuesday afternoon in the presence of Governor Mr. Abraham Makoi Bol Kodi.

“The conflict that took more than three years and claimed many lives is finally brought to an end today”, declares Gel-Weng youth leader Mr. Majual Makoi.

Governor of Western Lakes Mr. Makoi Bol urges chiefs, intellectuals and youths from both sides to accelerate the issue of blood compensation stipulated in the agreement.

“The most important thing in the agreement is the issue of blood compensation. This provision should be accelerated so that those killed during this conflict are accounted for.”

Meanwhile on behalf of UNMISS, Civil Affairs Officer Ms. Lilian Bondi commended the initiative:

“On behalf of UNMISS, allow me to commend the efforts exerted by the two sections of Kook-Awac and Kook-Keer to choose peace. UNMISS will continue to support this peace agreement to the last the end.”

The Governor donated four bulls to the youths of these two sections as a token of appreciation.
