    01 Aug 2017 - I had a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Deng Alor.He explained to me the evolution of the initiatives that are currently underway to advance peace in South Sudan, the importance of the IGAD initiative regarding the revitalization of the implementation of the peace agreement and the efforts that are being conducted by neighboring countries, such as Uganda, to bring stakeholders closer together.

    19 Jul 2017 - Mr. President, Honourable Ministers, Distinguished Members of the Council, Let me begin by thanking the government of China for convening this meeting to focus on enhancing African capacities in the areas of peace and security.   In my first days as Secretary-General, I attended the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa.  I wanted to launch a new era of cooperation with the AU founded on a core conviction.

    09 Jun 2017 - A cessation of hostilities agreement between warring ethnic groups in the Jonglei region is a “first step to dialogue and engagement but we now need to build on that and show that there is a real dividend for peace,” the head of UN peacekeeping in South Sudan, UNMISS, has said. David Shearer, who is also the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, was speaking during a visit to Bor and Pibor in former Jonglei State in the east of South Sudan.
