These youths have been reportedly moving across the state for some time now, with a possible intention of attacking other communities.

25 Dec 2013 - Juba, 24 December 2013 - The UN Mission in South Sudan has received media reports about the discovery of a mass grave in the Unity State capital of Bentiu containing the bodies of 75 soldiers of Dinka ethnic origin.

23 Dec 2013 - Juba, 21 December 2013 - The UN Mission in South Sudan held a memorial ceremony in Juba today for the two Indian Battalion peacekeepers who died in the 19 December attack on the UNMISS base in the Jonglei state town of Akobo.

20 Dec 2013 - Juba, 20 December 2013 - The UN Mission in South Sudan condemns in the strongest possible terms the unprovoked attack on its base in the Jonglei state town of Akobo on the afternoon of Thursday, 19 December. Earlier today UNMISS was able to confirm the deaths of two Indian Battalion soldiers, who were killed while defending the base against the assailants.

20 Dec 2013 - This morning, the UN Mission in South Sudan conducted an aerial assessment to Akobo Town. We can confirm that two UNMISS Indian Battalion troops were killed in action. UNMISS can also confirm that one injured Indian soldier has been transported to the Mission’s medical facility in Malakal.

20 Dec 2013 - The United Nations Mission in South Sudan strongly condemns today’s attack on its base in the Jonglei State town of Akobo by unknown assailants. At the time, 43 Indian peacekeepers, six UN police advisers and two civilians of the UN were present at the base. About 30 South Sudanese had sought shelter from the turmoil plaguing areas of Akobo County.

18 Dec 2013 - Juba, 18 December 2013 - UNMISS has observed a noticeable improvement in security conditions in much of Juba today. The Mission lifted restrictions on the movement of its personnel this morning. It has resumed patrols on a limited basis in the city itself and it restored flight service to and from the Ugandan city of Entebbe. Life in the centre of town is returning back to relative normalcy.

17 Dec 2013 - Juba, 17 December 2013 - The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Hilde F. Johnson, calls on all South Sudanese and all parties in the current situation to refrain from any community motivated violence. As UNMISS has previously warned against any hate speech in relation to inter-communal violence in South Sudan, it is paramount that the current violence does not assume ethnic dimensions.

16 Dec 2013 - Juba, 16 December 2013 - UNMISS can confirm that hundreds of civilians have been seeking refuge in the UNMISS compound adjacent to the international airport and at UN House in the Jebel Kujur area, a large number being women and children.
