26 Sep 2017 - The international community must show “unity of purpose” by supporting a peace process capable of implementation in South Sudan in the face of a “narrow” space for compromise, according to the UN’s most senior representative in the country. David Shearer, who is the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for South Sudan, was addressing a meeting of the UN Security Council in New York on Tuesday.

24 Sep 2017 - The Secretary-General met with H.E. Mr. Taban Deng Gai, First Vice-President of South Sudan. The Secretary-General expressed his profound concern with the ongoing violence and deteriorating humanitarian situation in the country.The Secretary-General acknowledged the National Dialogue and stressed the need for it to be inclusive and safe for the participation of all stakeholders.

20 Sep 2017 - Today we come together to observe the International Day of Peace. The theme is: “Together for Peace, Respect, Safety and Dignity for All”. Here in South Sudan people face enormous challenges. Half the population is suffering from severe hunger and is in need of food aid. One-third of the population have fled their homes or have crossed the border into neighboring countries as refugees. One million South Sudanese, for example, now live in refugee camps in Uganda.

14 Sep 2017 - The return of displaced people to their homes in Wau in north-western South Sudan could provide a“model” for other parts of the country, the Head of the UN Peacekeeping Mission in South Sudan(UNMISS) has said. David Shearer, who is also the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, was speaking on avisit to Wau town.

28 Aug 2017 -The United Nations Mission in South Sudan expresses its sincere sympathy to the family and friends of journalist Christopher Allen, killed during fighting in the town of Kaya, near the border with Uganda, in circumstances that remain unclear.

09 Aug 2017 - The Head of the UN Peacekeeping Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) has insisted that the mission maintains a “zero tolerance approach” to any attempts to militarize the camps for people displaced by conflict and that the camps remain civilian in nature. David Shearer, who is also the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, was speaking in Bentiu, where some 115,000 people are currently living in the Mission’s largest Protection of Civilians site or POC.
