Chief Inspector Doreen Malambo from Zambia has been named the 2020 United Nations Woman Police Officer of the Year. She is currently serving as a Gender Adviser with UNMISS.
30 Oct 2020 - New York, Friday, 30 October 2020 – The UN Department of Peace Operations announced that Chief Inspector Doreen Malambo of Zambia, currently serving in the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) will be awarded the 2020 United Nations Woman Police Officer of the Year. -
On 29 September 2020, David Shearer, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of UNMISS, briefed media partners on the current situation in South Sudan. The briefing was held at the mission's headquarters in Juba.

02 Sep 2020 - Juba, 2 September 2020: A temporary peacekeeping base is being established at Lobonok, in the Central Equatorian region of South Sudan, to help deter violence after a surge in armed attacks on civilians and humanitarian convoys.

Between April and June 2020, the overall number of civilians affected by violence decreased by 8 per cent, despite an increase by more than half (52 per cent) in the number of incidents, as compared with the first quarter of the year. However, COVID-19-related restrictions on movement negatively impacted UNMISS' capacity to thoroughly document all incidents.
