  • 26 Aug 2014 - Juba, 26 August 2014 - The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) confirms that three crew members of a UN-contracted MI-8 helicopter have died in this afternoon’s crash near Bentiu in Unity State.
  • 26 Aug 2014 - Juba, 26 August 2014 – The United Nations Mission in South Sudan confirms that one of its MI-8 helicopters has crashed about 10 km south of Bentiu in Unity State. The Mission lost contact with the helicopter, which was on a routine cargo flight from Wau to Bentiu, at 14.28 hours today.
  • 25 Aug 2014 - Juba, 25 August 2014 – The UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) condemns the detention of a team of six Inter-governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) ceasefire monitors and three aircrew in Buoth (35 km South West of Bentiu in Unity State) on Saturday, 23 August 2014 by forces allied to Sudan People's Liberation Army In Opposition. A Sudan People's Liberation Army liaison officer, who was part of the team, died during the detention period reportedly due to natural causes.
  • 19 Aug 2014 - Juba, 19 August 2014 - At approximately 9:45 am on Monday the 18th August, sustained gunfire, lasting for 30 minutes, was heard around the UNMISS compound in Bentiu, Unity State. The source of the firing was nearby Rubkona Airstrip, where SPLA soldiers are stationed.
  • 15 Aug 2014 - Juba, 15 August 2014 - This morning between 6:30am and 9:00am, heavy, sustained small arms and artillery fire was heard to the South East of the UNMISS Base in Bentiu. One artillery shell exploded next to the UNMISS base, however nobody was injured by the blast.
  • 06 Aug 2014 - Juba, 5 August 2014 - The UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) condemns in the strongest possible terms the killing by the so-called Mabanese Defence Forces of at least five South Sudanese employees of humanitarian non-governmental organizations (NGOs) earlier today in and around Bunj, Maban County, in Upper Nile State. Two of the victims were murdered in Bunj Town, a third aid worker is reported as missing but presumed dead.
  • 04 Aug 2014 - Juba, 4 August 2014 – UNMISS is deeply concerned about the deteriorating security situation in Bunj, Maban County, Upper Nile State, where, since yesterday, there have been clashes between a community-based self defence militia calling itself the Mabanese Defence Forces and deserting SPLA soldiers. Since last night, elements of this militia have been moving around the town, approaching offices of humanitarian organizations and asking if they have any Nuer employees.

  • 21 Jul 2014 - Juba, 20 July 2014 - The UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) is gravely concerned about an attack that took place today in Nassir Town, Upper Nile State. The attack was carried out by opposition forces comprised of a mixture of armed youths and defected SPLA soldiers (SPLA in Opposition) loyal to former Vice President, Mr. Riek Machar Teny.
