In a small and intimate ceremony outside of the Force Headquarters at the United Nations base in Juba, seven military staff officers from Brazil received their UN Medal of Service. With military uniforms bearing the Brazilian flag, well-known to anyone who is a football enthusiast, the staff officers were pinned with the medal by the Police Commissioner, Bruce Munyambo and the Deputy Force Commander, Major General Bayarsaikhan Dashdondog.

The Medal Parade took place on 7 September coinciding with Brazil’s 195^th Independence Day making the occasion that much more joyous.

Speaking at the ceremony, Senior Military Liaison Officer, Colonel Ivan Correa Filho from the Brazilian army said that there was “joy and pride” in serving the UN Mission in South Sudan and helping the people of South Sudan. He said that Brazil was committed to helping build durable peace in the young nation.

There are currently eleven men from the Brazilian Army, Air Force and Navy serving as military staff officers as well as two female police officers working at the UN Protection of Civilians sites in Juba.
