The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) and COVID-19

As COVID-19 cases continue to rise, UNMISS is accelerating its efforts to support the national-led response to the crisis. The peacekeeping mission is stepping up to help in cities, towns, and villages across the country, including renovating hospitals and providing extra tents and beds to increase capacity to treat and isolate people. The mission is installing new water tanks, boreholes, and generators as well as handing over tens of thousands of face masks, safety glasses and gloves to protect health workers. Ambulances are also being made available to transport patients. To raise awareness about COVID-19 prevention, UNMISS has produced and distributed 80,000 informational pamphlets and posters and is using promotional trucks, including in Protection of Civilians sites, to broadcast public health messages to communities. In addition to this dedicated support for the fight against coronavirus, UNMISS is continuing its lifesaving and life-changing work to protect civilians, facilitate the safe delivery of humanitarian aid, and build peace in South Sudan.
