Protecting civilians, undertaking a variety of engineering assignments, offering health services to humans and animals alike: no task seems to be beyond the capabilities of the 1,160 peacekeepers from India currently serving in Upper Nile State.

Gender-based violence, often of a sexual nature, is alarmingly commonplace and frequently goes unreported in South Sudan, where perpetrators more often than not get away with their assaults.

Internally displaced persons, local authorities, military, and police recently gathered in Mangala town for a training on protection of civilians and how to monitor, verify and respond to incidents of violence.
A newly constructed humanitarian hub in hard-to-access Raja County will make it easier to assist the growing number of previously displaced people returning to their homes.
