Indian peacekeepers have been recognized for their strong contribution to building peace in conflict-affected South Sudan as well as for going above and beyond their duties to support local communities.

Nyarien Ochiek Yot and her five children fled their village in the far north of South Sudan to the United Nations protection site in Bor when her husband was killed during fierce fighting at the start of the civil war.

As normal life resumes in the areas ravaged by war in South Sudan’s former Unity State, the leadership in the opposition-controlled areas is promising to respond to intercommunal conflicts and ensure safety for civilians, who are reportedly threatened by criminals.
