The United Nations Mine Action Service has discovered and removed unexploded ordinances and mines five kilometres outside of Bor town, in the Thon-Awai area, in the Greater Jonglei region.

UNMISS Condemns the Assault on a CTSAMVM Monitoring and Verification Team in the Luri Area
An agreement on how to manage cattle migrations affecting people living in a number of counties in the Eastern Equatoria region has been reached.
The people living in the Torit and Kapoeta regions have signed an agreement to advance peaceful coexistence and to regulate, control and manage cattle movements between the counties of Kidepo Valley, Riwoto, Ikotos, Chukudum, Torit East, Kimotong and Lopa.
The rights of the girl-child were discussed and affirmed at a cultural festival organized by UNMISS in Torit.
“Torit give us a chance! Marriage is between adults, not between an adult and a child. We are left without a future when our brothers are sent to school, but we are picked out to clean, cook and get married,” Mary Akur, a student at the Father Saturlino school, poured out.

Following recent reports about large-scale sexual violence targeting women in the Unity region, UNMISS organized a workshop with community leaders and security forces to discuss solutions.
“People in our area have been accused of those sexual assaults. We will lead the fight and find those who abused our women, says Laraka Machar, Deputy Governor in Northern Liech.
A healthy animal is a happier animal. UNMISS peacekeepers in Malakal have trained people in the local community how to provide basic veterinary services.
An enthusiastic group of trainees in Malakal are now ready to provide basic services to livestock owners in the area, after completing an intensive, hands-on training on community animal health.
Women belonging to various ethnic groups got together in Bor for a workshop on the importance of national identity.
“We were all in the bush together. We all fought for the liberation and independence of South Sudan. We are the same people.”
Hundreds of women, young and old, gather and line up at a food distribution center, opposite Bentiu town’s main mosque.
They are from Nhialdiu, and have walked anywhere between 30 and 40 kilometers to get to this food distribution center.
