A shared love of sports is fostering friendship and trust between peacekeepers and people who have fled violence and sought sanctuary in a camp next to the United Nations base at Melut, in the remote north of South Sudan.

Teaching children about the importance of respecting each other’s human rights will help South Sudan build a peaceful and prosperous nation for future generations, says the Officer in Charge of the United Nations Field Office in Yambio, Caroline Waudo.

Hundreds of young people have been united by a shared love for sport and a desire for peace in the troubled Eastern Equatorian region of South Sudan, which is continuing to experience ongoing violence between armed groups.
