UNMISS supports football match for inter-University Peace League
2 March 2017 – The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) received two certificates of appreciation from the University of Juba today as the Mission and local universities in Juba organized the UNMISS Peace Fair along with the opening ceremony for the Inter-University Peace League.

In a series of incidents taking place on Wednesday 22 February in Bentiu, members of the UNMISS Mongolian Battalion rescued approximately 50 internally displaced persons, IDPs, from being abducted by uniformed soldiers.
Thousands of people have turned up in famine-struck Leer County to register for food aid delivered by the World Food Programme (WFP) and its humanitarian partners.
Thousands of people hit by hunger in Leer County in the Unity region turned up at Thonyor Payam on Saturday to register for food aid, following last week's declaration of famine in parts of South Sudan.

About 100 people participated in a workshop given by UNPOL in Wau on community policing, sexual gender-based violence and other relevant topics.
A five-day workshop for community watch groups organized by UN Police (UNPOL) finished today.
Some 100 participants drawn from the South Sudan National Police Service (SSNPS) and Community Watch Group members from IDP (internally displaced persons) camps attended the training.

The International Organization for Migration, IOM, is providing emergency health care and shelter assistance to South Sudanese forced to flee their homes due to violence in volatile areas of the country, including Unity and Central Equatoria.

The World Health Organization (WHO) with support from the European Commission's Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection department (ECHO) have delivered essential medicines and supplies to the communities affected by the cholera outbreak in the Islands of Jonglei and Greater Lakes.

In an effort to rapidly contain the resurgence of cholera in South Sudan, the World Health Organization (WHO) has secured oral cholera vaccine to vaccinate the communities in Leer Town and other areas.
They should be farming, but can't. The Western Equatoria part of South Sudan, known for and proud of its traditional self-sufficiency and status as "bread basket" of the country, has seen agricultural output drop as a result of conflict.
A strong partnership with the UN Mission in South Sudan is needed to reinvigorate what’s been described as “green stability” in Gbudwe State in the south west of the country, according to a senior state minster.
