UNMISS PoC sites Update No.194
News

Join the UN Mission's nationwide essay competition for secondary students by telling us: "How can women contribute to durable peace in South Sudan?" Deadline for submissions is 26 March.

By June this currently barren area at the Juba Checkpoint village will see the completion of an UNMISS-financed Joint Integrated Police post, aimed partially at making the area safe enough for displaced people to want to return to their homes.

In South Sudan, years of conflict have subjected women to unspeakable atrocities. Yet they carry on, sometimes with the support of the UN family and other humanitarian actors.

The number of displaced persons staying at the UN protection size has decreased significantly, from a high of 39,000 to approximately 25,000.

Residents in the area showed up en masse to enjoy the Yei peace football tournament - and being able to move around freely, without fear of insecurity.
