BENTIU - “I have learned to be mindful of objects, no matter how familiar they look,” said Nyedel Tap Hoth a pupil of Naath Primary School in the Internally Displaced Person’s camp in Bentiu.
A fresh deluge in Bentiu, Unity state, has local communities scrambling as South Sudan faces the most catastrophic floods in 60 years. However, thanks to UNMISS engineers from Pakistan and humanitarian partners, the latest emergency response should be able to tide people, especially those who are displaced, over the worst at least. BENTIU - Born in Juba, South Sudan, Edea Sharon grew up in the refugee camps of neighboring Uganda. Today at 40, she is the mother of two children. But her parenting role started early in life.
WARRAP - Roda Wasuk Primo Sube wears many hats. She’s a mother to a daughter, a passionate advocate for women’s empowerment and a Gender Affairs Officer with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).
MALAKAL - Teresina Peter is a 48-year-old mother to eight children. She lost her husband early in life but wasn’t defeated.
TORIT - 60-year-old Davidica Ikai Grasiano Ayahu is widowed with two children. But, according to her, the part of her life that she’s most proud of is her role as a social worker.
