21 December 2013 - Honouring two Indian peacekeepers who lost their lives protecting civilians during an attack on its base in Akobo, Jonglei State, UNMISS held a memorial ceremony today in Juba.
Juba, 20 December 2013 - The UN Mission in South Sudan condemns in the strongest possible terms the unprovoked attack on its base in the Jonglei state town of Akobo on the afternoon of Thursday, 19 December.
This morning, the UN Mission in South Sudan conducted an aerial assessment to Akobo Town. We can confirm that two UNMISS Indian Battalion troops were killed in action. UNMISS can also confirm that one injured Indian soldier has been transported to the Mission’s medical facility in Malakal.
The United Nations Mission in South Sudan strongly condemns today’s attack on its base in the Jonglei State town of Akobo by unknown assailants. At the time, 43 Indian peacekeepers, six UN police advisers and two civilians of the UN were present at the base.

Juba, 18 December 2013 - UNMISS has observed a noticeable improvement in security conditions in much of Juba today. The Mission lifted restrictions on the movement of its personnel this morning.
18 December 2013 – Large numbers of people in need of medical attention after two days of violence constitute the most acute humanitarian challenge facing the South Sudanese capital Juba, the UN resident and humanitarian coordinator said today.
17 December 2013 - A South Sudanese baby was delivered at a UNMISS clinic in the Jonglei State capital Bor today, bringing to nine the total number of babies born in the mission’s health facilities in the last two days.
Juba, 17 December 2013 - The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Hilde F. Johnson, calls on all South Sudanese and all parties in the current situation to refrain from any community motivated violence.
