After the long search for a solution to peace and stability in Rumbek, three community have  reached a settlement. The peace and reconciliation conference has ended the deadly conflict between three communities in Rumbek centre and Rumbek north county. This sectional feud has devastated and claimed many lives, villages have been deserted, and schools have been evacuated.  The conference drew participants from the diaspora, National MPs and state authorities. The Bishop of the Episcopal Church of Sudan, Alphayo Manyang Kuctiel, urged citizens to build trust and come together as brothers and sisters.

UN Peacekeeping Chief, Hervé Ladsous, Peace in South Sudan can only be salvaged through “a strong political and coordinated approach.

The Security Council meeting marks the second time this week that the chamber has taken up this latest crisis in South Sudan.

Addressing the council on Wednesday, the Peace Keeping chief Herve Ladsous said concerted action by the Security Council is required.

“We can see clearly now the results of the Parties’ deliberate attempts to stall the implementation of the peace agreement signed almost one year ago in August 2015. We can no longer afford to sit idle as the people of South Sudan bear the brunt of the intransigence of their leaders. Only a strong political and coordinated approach can salvage the peace process now. 

Mr Ladsous says that the havoc and suffering subjected on the people of South Sudan by its leaders must come to an end.

“The Security Council must urgently reconsider an arms embargo. Clearly, the threat of one has done little to deter the Parties. Likewise, additional targeted sanctions on leaders and commanders blocking the implementation of the Peace Agreement must be enacted immediately. South Sudan’s never-ending life line to wreak havoc on its people must come to an end now.” 

UNMISS Force Commander Lt. Gen. Johnson Kimani Ondieki has noted the vital role played by the Ethiopian government in UN peacekeeping operations.

The Force Commander made the remarks while awarding medals to Ethiopian Peacekeepers in Bor.

The award ceremony was attended by top authorities in Jonglei as well as UNMISS Peacekeepers from the Ethiopian battalion.

More than 5 thousand internal displaced persons from Li-Rangu payam in Yambio County have expressed an urgent need for humanitarian assistance.

Many people were displaced last week, following clashes between SPLA and armed youth in the Payam.

The Coordinator of Relief and Rehabilitation Commission in Yambio Francisco Francis says more than five thousand IDPs have been registered and more are still coming.

“We have registered about eight hundred and forty eight households of internal displaced persons from Li-Rangu, which is five thousand nine hundred and thirty six individuals who were displaced from the conflict, which took place there some few days back. More are still those who are outside now are not yet registered so we are going to continue registering them for a day or two then we will stop the registration. So now, we are registering them and then soon an assessment will take place after assessment then verification then from there intervention will take place by the international humanitarian agencies.
