8 December 2014 - UNMISS was ready to continue to work with all government authorities in Western Bahr El-Ghazal State in peace building activities, a senior mission official said today in Raja County.

UNMISS State Coordinator Winnie Babihuga was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of an abattoir built in the county which aims to ensure that the local community have access to clean and healthy meat.

The abattoir, built at a cost of more than $7,000, was funded by the mission’s Quick Impact Projects and implemented by the Kenyan peacekeeping battalion deployed in Raja.

“I want to thank the commissioner of Raja County and the office of the state governor for the tremendous support in mobilizing the people in partnership for building peace,” said Ms. Babihuga. “This project is the symbol of the partnership of the United Nations with the government of South Sudan, Western el Bahr Ghazal and Raja County.”

The abattoir, which will be run by the local government, has an office and a room for meat vendors.

Ms. Babihuga and Deputy State Governor Joseph Rizik handed over the project to local county authorities after inaugurating it.

Mr. Rizik thanked UNMISS for taking the initiative in building such projects, in addition to building peace and security in the state.
