09 Aug 2017 - The Head of the UN Peacekeeping Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) has insisted that the mission maintains a “zero tolerance approach” to any attempts to militarize the camps for people displaced by conflict and that the camps remain civilian in nature. David Shearer, who is also the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, was speaking in Bentiu, where some 115,000 people are currently living in the Mission’s largest Protection of Civilians site or POC.

02 Aug 2017 - I had a very good meeting with His Excellency the President of the Republic of South Sudan. We had a discussion on the peace process on the different initiatives that are converging to helping bring peace back to South Sudan. We discussed about the security situation in its different aspects including the deployment of the Regional Protection Forces (RPF). We also discussed the humanitarian situation. -

On the security issues the Vice President explained the current evolution of the situation, but also the fighting in some parts of the country, particularly in the north-east.

01 Aug 2017 - I had a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Deng Alor.He explained to me the evolution of the initiatives that are currently underway to advance peace in South Sudan, the importance of the IGAD initiative regarding the revitalization of the implementation of the peace agreement and the efforts that are being conducted by neighboring countries, such as Uganda, to bring stakeholders closer together. -
