06 May 2013 - 6 May 2013 - "I am deeply concerned about the humanitarian situation in Jonglei State, where thousands of civilians are in need of assistance and protection, and where humanitarian workers have treated more than 450 casualties, including children, since February. We have seen houses burned down and civilian property destroyed. Facilities such as schools and health centres have been robbed, looted and occupied by armed actors.

17 Apr 2013 - I came from New York to discuss with the Government of South Sudan, the United Nations Mission in South Sudan, and bilateral partners the challenges in the strategic areas of justice, military justice, corrections, police, DDR, SSR and mine action as well as the best way to deal with priorities in these areas, and in other key aspects of UNMISS work to support the Government of South Sudan, such as protection of civilians and building a national dialogue and reconciliation.

09 Apr 2013 - 9 April 2013 - Hilde F. Johnson, Special Representative of the Secretary-General in South Sudan, condemns in the strongest terms the killing today of five peacekeepers and seven civilians working with UNMISS in an ambush by unidentified assailants near the settlement of Gumuruk, Jonglei State. At least nine additional peacekeepers and civilians were injured in the attack and some remain unaccounted for.

08 Apr 2013 - Juba, 8 April 2013 - The United Nations Mission in South Sudan calls upon the country's authorities to take all necessary steps to protect civilians during military operations in Jonglei State. All communities and state bodies in Jonglei need to take urgent measures to prevent the mobilization of armed youth to carry out retaliatory attacks that would trigger another deadly cycle of inter-communal violence.

22 Feb 2013 - Juba, 22 February 2013: The Special Representative of the Secretary-General to South Sudan, Ms. Hilde F. Johnson, is deeply concerned about recent developments in Jonglei. "Unless community leaders and government authorities take decisive action to stop the violence, stability in the whole of Jonglei state will be at stake," she said, following a two-day visit to the areas hardest hit by recent instability and cattle raiding.

Today, a prominent South Sudanese actor for peace has been given a richly-deserved recognition of his efforts and accomplishments in building trust and peace between different communities in the Holy Trinity Peace Village in Kuron, in the Eastern Equatoria State.

11 Feb 2013 - 10 February 2013 - South Sudan has now become a pilot country for the UN Plan of Action on the safety of journalists and the issue of impunity. The Plan of Action aims to create a free and safe environment for journalists and media workers. The Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Barnaba Benjamin Marial has committed to South Sudan becoming a pilot country.
