A cultural organization in Torit is using art to depict the human suffering caused by the conflict.

The Art and Design for Cultural Restoration Organization (ADCRO) is working with young men and women to model pieces that tell untold stories and experiences of the common man and woman.

“This model of a malnourished pregnant mother, father and child tells the story of the situation facing the people of South Sudan,” said Akera William, the organisations Executive Director, in an impassioned explanation about one of his works of art.

The artists use cardboard, paper and porridge to create abstract pieces in a skill artistically known as ‘papier mâché.’

The organization has 13 members and is hoping to grow, as the public becomes more familiar with its work.

Akera says they are hoping to use the creations to shock the country’s leaders into ensuring the return of peace to the country.

He spoke to Radio Miraya Reporter John James Okello in this interview.
