Chinese peacekeepers host cultural exhibition in Wau

10 August 2012 – The UNMISS Chinese Engineering Company presented a cultural exhibition at Wau's Bahr El-Ghazal University today that highlighted its contributions to the people of South Sudan.

The company's commanding officer First Colonel Wang Zhoungua said his troops had built a transitional facility for ex-combatants in the Western Bahr El-Ghazal state town of Mapel and cleared land for farming by the Sudan People's Liberation Army as part of their ongoing effort to implement the UNMISS mandate.

"These projects are for the betterment of South Sudanese people in Wau," said Col. Wang. "We are also helping Wau County authority to construct roads and culverts in Wau town."

The exhibition also showcased Chinese culture and cooperation with the Republic of South Sudan.

The university's Principal Prof. Isaiah Ayuel talked about the history of relations between China and South Sudan and told students that "you should know something about China because in the near future some of you will study in China."

Some of the students who attended the exhibition are already thinking in those terms.

"I admire China, it is so beautiful in terms of culture and weather as I have seen in the pictures," said Grace Samuel, a student at the university's College of Education. "I wish that I will one day study in China and their language."
