Eastern Equatoria now calm, governor says

4 June 2013 - UNMISS support to government efforts had helped to contain episodes of insecurity in Eastern Equatoria, Governor Louis Lobong Lojore said in the state capital Torit today.

In a meeting with UNMISS Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General (DSRSG) Raisedon Zenenga, Brig. Gen. Lojore declared Juba-Torit road to be safe, after recent attacks on vehicles along the route.

"The national and state governments have put measures in place, (such as) security forces ... patrolling the road," he said, adding that the mission and other partners had been very supportive.

Mr. Zenenga, who was in the state for a one-day visit, said he was pleased the state government was well prepared in identifying priorities and development needs.

The DSRSG also travelled to Kapoeta, where he met with the commissioners of Kapoeta East, Kapoeta South and Budi counties.
