Hundreds receive fishing kits in Buaw Payam, Unity

12 August 2015 - In tackling dire food shortages in Buaw Payam of Koch County, Unity State, international agencies today presented some 400 households with fishing kits.

The kits were provided by the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) with the facilitation of UNMISS’ Relief, Reintegration and Protection unit.

On behalf of displaced people, community elder John Chol Wang, thanked UNMISS for highlighting humanitarian needs of the area and supporting FAO in bringing the people much-needed fishing kits.

“The people in the area are suffering from food shortages due to the recent conflict and they need emergency food as well as non-food items like pots, plastic sheets, plates, blankets and mosquito nets,” Mr. Wang said.

People were trying to survive on water lilies, the elder said, adding that more than 7,000 households in the area were in need of emergency food and non-food items.
