IDP community in Malakal receive wheel chairs and white canes

To foster a better understanding of the mission’s role in the protection of civilian’s the UNMISS RRP section in Malakal in partnership with the Humanitarian Development Consortium (HDC), Internews, and the South Sudan Development Agency (SSUDA), handed over one hundred wheel chairs and one hundred white canes to vulnerable persons with physical and sight impairments in the Community Justice Centre in the Malakal.

The QIP, which was funded by UNMISS RRP, also covered the training of community groups on human rights and peace and reconciliation.

UNMISS Head of Field Office in Malakal, Hazel Dewet, appreciated role play by the RRP and implementing partners for the donation of wheel chairs and white canes.

“I really appreciate the support of our colleagues. We will try our best to see how we can continue to support you.  Today is a special day to me to have been able to come here and to be proud of the environment, and to provide support to the vulnerable.” said Ms. Dewet.

The chairman of Peace and Security Council in the Malakal PoC site, Matthew B. Chol, called upon the elders, youth and women to take care of the vulnerable people in community.

“This people in front of God are like us, those who are blind and crippled are like us, UNMISS and NGOs have done their part, we the elders and youth should take care of the vulnerable, we should take care of them when they need food and other things.” said Chol.

The handover ceremony of the QIP was crowned with traditional dances by women and youth Groups.
