Indian Peacekeepers provide emergency medical care to critically ill pregnant woman

A critically ill pregnant woman suffering from complicated malaria has received life-saving medical care from Indian peacekeepers serving with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan.

The 23-year-old woman had initially received anti-malarial medication after suffering from fever and vomiting for several days. However, her condition worsened due to complications relating to her pregnancy and she collapsed. The woman was rushed from the UN Protection of Civilians site at Melut, in the Upper Nile region of South Sudan, to the nearby Level One Hospital operated by the Indian battalion.

The medical team placed her on basic life support, providing her with fluids and anti-malarial medication, until her condition stabilised. She has since been evacuated to the hospital at Paloich for further treatment and care.
