The UNMISS Communications and Public Information Section in Wau organized a celebration to mark the International Day of Peace.

The celebration commenced with the raising of the UN flag.  Following that, the Head of Office laid a wreath in memory of the men and women that sacrificed their lives around the world in the cause of peace. Then, all of the UNMISS TCC’s conducted a brief military parade.

The main event of the celebration was held at PoC 2 in the presence of Wau State government representative, the Minister of Education and Social Welfare, Mrs. Rucharia Madut, UNMISS Senior officials, UN agencies, and the site’s inhabitants.

All the ethnic groups residing in the PoC site presented their respective traditional dances and entertained the audiences. Three short dramas, all focusing on peace, were also staged during the event. The message of the UN Secretary-General was recited by the HoFO.
