International Day of Peace celebrated in the Malakal PoC site
The 2016 International Day of Peace was colourfully celebrated in Malakal POC today with cultural performances, church songs, and drama.
The celebration was organized by the UNMISS in collaboration with the South Sudan Council of Churches.
In her remarks, Ms. Asunta Barnadino, the representative of South Sudan Council of Churches (SSCC), urged communities at the Protection of Civilian’s site to embrace peace as their first priority in order for tranquillity to reign once more in this country which has been terribly torn apart by conflict.
“I beseech you my beloved, to seek peace among ourselves as paramount, that we urge the rest of society to join us in implementing the message of peace into daily life basis as far as the tranquillity between us is concerned,’’ said Ms. Barnadino.
Also in attendance was Mathew Chol Jock, the Chairman of Peace and Security Council in the protection site. He called on the IDP’s to work hand in hand with the UNMISS to take on the responsibility of increasing order and peace within the camp.
“Is acceptable in our side to work closely with our partners in the UN mission through acknowledging the role they play in protecting our lives from threats. Let us cooperate fully with the UNMISS to uphold peace,” said the Chairman.
The acting Head of Field Office, Enos Chuma, took time to read the message of UN Secretary-General which covered the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
