Jonglei government recognizes work of South Korean peacekeepers

1 October 2013 - To recognize their work and achievements, Jonglei State government presented certificates to the UNMISS South Korean engineers today during a farewell party in the capital Bor.

“The government of Jonglei started to recognize the efforts and commitments of South Korean Engineers of UNMISS from the time they were deployed here,” said Acting State Governor Hussein Maar. “They have been helping our people, and we appreciate … this.”

The contingent, which will leave South Sudan in coming weeks, arrived in Jonglei six months ago. The engineers took on various infrastructure projects, including expansion of Bor airstrip, maintenance of major roads, construction of a sewage dump site and digging of dykes to contain floods from the River Nile.

The engineers also assisted Bor Civil Hospital and the town’s orphanage center with donations of essential items.

Speaking on behalf of his team, Sergeant Yim Seo Hyun said the South Korean replacement contingent would give similar assistance to the state.
