Journalists pay tribute to slain columnist

4 January 2013 - Prominent South Sudanese opinion writers paid tribute to the late Diing Chan Awuol at the Nyakuron Cultural Center in Juba today.

A regular contributor to the Sudan Tribune and Gurtong websites who wrote under the name of Isaiah Abraham, the 50-year-old father of five was shot to death by unknown gunmen outside his house in the Juba neighborhood of Gudele in the early hours of 5 December 2012.

At a press conference in Juba yesterday, the South Sudanese Minister of Information Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin announced the arrest of an unknown number of suspects in connection with the murder.

President Salva Kiir Mayardit publicly condemned the slaying, and a team from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation arrived in Juba last month to assist South Sudanese authorities in their investigation of the killing.
