Lakes prisons officers discuss strategic development plan

23 January 2013 - Prisons officers in Lakes State must take advantage of every available resource to enhance their capacity, the state Director of Prisons said today.

Opening a two-day strategic development planning workshop in the state capital Rumbek today, Bol Adior Adeer advised prison officers to actively participate in discussion of the National Strategic Development Plan.

"... (This is about) strategic planning for 2012 to 2015," he said. "I want you to be very inquisitive... to understand this document."

According to the national strategic development plan, the priority for the period 2012 to 2014 is safer and more secure containment, reduced prolonged, illegal and arbitrary detention, rehabilitation, accountability and professional standards.

Some 40 senior prison officers participated in the workshop, which was organized by UNMISS Corrections Advisory Section to help the local force develop mechanisms to achieve plan goals.

Mr. Adeer called on prison officers to ensure that staff and prisoners worked diligently in various production activities, including agriculture.
