Leadership for prison officers begins in Kuajok

19 May 2014 - To strengthen rule of law in the state and country at large, UNMISS launched a 10-day training in leadership and responsibility for prison officers in Kuajok, Warrap State.

The training will be attended by 20 officers from all six counties in Warrap State.

“They will learn about basic prison services, the philosophy and treatment of prisoners, including supervisory management, basic rights of inmates and conflict resolution,” said UNMISS Corrections and Advisory Section Officer Ryan Phillips.

Acting Director of Warrap State Prison Service Lt-Col Michael Malou Makuei urged participants to actively partake in the course, which would benefit them and the state.

This course is all about general management,” he said. “It is our duty to correct inmates to become good persons and this course is an opportunity for you.”

UNMISS Warrap State Coordinator Abraham Onifade said the mission’s aim was to support rule of law. “Put your attention into this training … you will learn a lot from this workshop.”
